Acupuncture

Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. The practice dates back to at least the 2nd century B.C. in China. Acupuncture typically incorporates Traditional Chinese Medicine as an integral part of its practice and theory. Acupuncture is a system of healing that treats the whole person - supporting not only the body but also an individual’s unique emotional and spiritual makeup.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yang.  The concept of two opposing yet complementary forces described in traditional Chinese medicine. Yin represents cold, slow, or passive aspects of the person, while yang represents hot, excited, or active aspects.     Health is achieved by maintaining the body in a "balanced state"; disease is due  to an internal imbalance of yin and yang.  This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of Qi (vital energy).   Qi can be unblocked by using acupuncture at certain points on the body that connect with these meridians.

The acupuncturist decides which points to treat by observing and questioning the patient in order to make a diagnosis according to the tradition which he or she utilizes.
